U.S. Army Promotes Majuro Native Claudia Muller-Bradford  Bottom

  • Another successfull Marshallese soldier. Congrats SFC Muller-Bradford.
    "This Well Defend" Hoaah!!

"God, our Father, has entrusted precious little ones to our earthly care. To them may we teach prayer, inspire faith, live truth, and honor God. Then we shall have heavenly homes and forever families. For what higher gift could we wish? For what greater blessing could we pray? None!"
Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Claudia's had a remarkable career.

She is currently assigned to the 10th Mountain Division. As a member of that Division, she has deployed at least twice to Afghanistan and maybe more. I don't know if still true but about one year ago, I read the 10th Mountain had deployed to Southwest Asia more than any other Division in the US Army.

Claudia has been inducted into the Audie Murphy Club and her next assignment is as a Drill Sergeant for basic training soldiers at Fort Jackson. Both of these are marks of an exceptional NCO who has displayed exemplary leadership skills.

The award of the Army Commendation Medal was not the first time she received this medal, it was her fourth. She has several other performance medals, four overseas service awards, a combat patch (right shoulder) for the 10th Mountain, an Expert Marksman badge for rifle (that's the highest level awarded), and many other distinctive awards and ribbons.

And finally, I believe one of Claudia's medals is the Bronze Star.

I suspect most Marshallese know that Claudia is the daughter of Vincent and Philomena Muller. She grew up on Majuro, attended and graduated from AHS, and went straight from there into the Army.

“I hope the signing of the LUA (Land Use Agreement) allows the Government of the Marshall Islands more time to focus on the biggest issues it faces – how to raise the level of education and health of the Marshallese people and how to create an economy that will be stable after direct US funding ends in 2023.”
US Ambassador to the Marshall Islands Martha Campbell, as quoted by MI Journal, 13 May 2011, pg 4
  • Keep up the good work and good luck on your next assignment, Drill!

  • Wow! Audie Murphy, SFC, and Drill? That's high speed. Congrats on making E-7 and best of luck at Drill School. Hooah!
  • Here is a second photo, showing her ribbons, medals and decorations more clearly, which the U.S. Embassy in Majuro sent today following interest expressed over her promotion:

  • Mike Pettit (retired Army) kindly took time to send a thorough description of SPC Muller's medals and photo (one also sent by Embassy) along with the family's approval.

QuoteFor anyone from anywhere, Claudia's Army record would be seen as among the very, very best.

The top award Claudia has received is the Bronze Star. You can only win this medal by serving in combat with distinction and courage. Claudia is with an Aviation Battalion and I believe part of the logistics support section that handles aviation fuel for the helicopters in the battalion. Working with aviation fuel in any environment is risky; in a combat zone, the danger is obviously multiplied many times over.

Her Unit Citations (left side of photo) include the Valorous Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, signifying two awards. This award signifies the unit she served with was cited "for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United States." She also has the Meritorious Unit Award (two awards) for being in an outstanding unit in direct combat support role.

Claudia has four awards of the Army Commendation Medal and four awards of the Army Achievement Medal, indicating outstanding performance in multiple assignments - essentially, career-long excellence.

In addtion to the ribbon for service in Afghanistan (with the 10th Mountain Division), Claudia has the Overseas Service Ribbon with the number 3. This means that in addtion to Afghanistan, Claudia has served in three other tours overseas.

Claudia has the Expert Marksman Badge (that is the highest level you can be awarded) and the Expert Driver Badge. I suspect she got that Driver Badge driving aviation fuel trucks, possibly including in Afghanistan. Not a job for the faint-hearted.

And finally, Claudia is wearing the Audie Murphy Award, a very special award since the recipeitns are selected by their fellow Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and only the best of the best are honored with this prestigious award by their peers.

I am proud of my career but in her 14 years, SGC Claudia Bradford-Muller, who joined right out of Assumption High School on Majuro, has done more and achieved more than I did in 22+ years. I am confident she will be a First Sergeant (the top NCO over a company of 100 - 250 soldiers) before she retires and if she chooses to stay beyond 20 years, a Command Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank in the US Army.

  • From reading all her accomplishment/awards, I think I am not wrong to say Claudia is a real life GI JANE. Jeraman to her, ro nukun im mottan im family eo an im kij should be really proud of her.

And I most definately think, if she's not on it yet, that Claudia deserves to be placed on "Yokweonline Honor Gallery" (if she's not there yet) along side our other brothers and sisters in arms.

  • Jeramon nan kwe foh making it to E-7...have on your way to your next duty as DS school hoaaah...
  • Congradulations Ms. Muller(-B) upon your promotion. A true Marshallese High Speed. I only know only one other Marshallese who was a Sergeant First Class(SFC) or higher and that was "La-Kenu" Loeak. That was back in 1999 (Fort Benning, GA). Last time i saw him, he was a Master Sergeant. I believe he was an air-borne ranger instructor over at the Ranger Training Brigade in Ft. Benning. This shows how hard is it to make that high enlisted rank this lady has achieved. For that, my hat is off. I salute you, Hooah! Thank you for representing Uliga...Assumption High School, im elaptata RMI.

  • Congradulations!!!!
you forgot to put your CAB (Combat Action Badge) on. Jeramman and God Bless
  • CAB is new, did not exist at time of photo.

But, yes, SFC Muller would now also wear that badge.

“I hope the signing of the LUA (Land Use Agreement) allows the Government of the Marshall Islands more time to focus on the biggest issues it faces – how to raise the level of education and health of the Marshallese people and how to create an economy that will be stable after direct US funding ends in 2023.”

  • CAB has been around for a few years now. It is more like the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) but for the None-Infantry MOS.
