    Are you kidding? Something could have been planned or implemented within that two year period. What we've seen , no disrespect to the Iroij, DELETED That gave the RMI leadership pretty luosy image. FYI, my comment is a reply for the comment above.     It's perfectly fine for our Iroij(s) to run for any seats in our parliament, however, it'll be a conflict of interests for the commoners who'll work along with them, because most of the time they'll have to challenge them for the good, AND we all know happen if a commoner talk back to a Iroij, EVERYBODY will call him/her Jejjej and all those nasty words.

    That's why it should be either a "Iroij" or "Politician". If this government is for the people, THEN LET THE PEOPLE RUN IT! Trust me, they'll do a lot better because they'll have no where to go but up.


    That was the question I had. How much critisism the Iroij in the leadership take and let go to be good democratic leaders? Just imagine, two Iroijlaplap on the highest position in the government. We have the council of Iroij right?
    Again, this is not disrespecting our Iroij, just a thought. We'll see how it will be for the first year or two.

    The thread's original topic was our new President's inaugural speech. This thread has gone way OFF-TOPIC. The topic was not whether our traditional leaders should be governmental leaders. If you want to discuss that or other ideas/issues/topics, start a new thread.

    I'd like to bring it back to the subject at hand.

    For instance, here is what the President said about traditional values and customs and their importance today:

    We draw our strength from our Manit (traditional custom). This manit (traditional custom) has bind us together and strengthened us throughout history. This same Manit will keep us together as we continue our journey forth.

    Marshallese traditional custom ruled our lives many centuries past and it will protect us in the forthcoming generations.

    Our Manit must be made apparent in our lives and our daily interactions with each other. It will be a tragedy for us if it is missing in our lives, but practiced only in our words. After all actions speak louder than words.

    Indeed, from time to time, our Iroij (traditional chiefs), Alap (clan heads), or Dri-jerbal (senior workers) may slip up as they carry out their roles. This as we are all humans and we make mistakes, however, I do not believe that we have to ignore nor discard our manit due to these shortcomings.

    Our traditional custom is God-given. It is our birthright from our ancestors. It is our canoe in the sea of the world. It is our anchor, it binds us to our skies, to our ocean, and to our lands. It is the root from which stems forth our jowi (clan), bwij (lineage), and nukun (kinship network)
