  • Definetly Lowkey needs to really think DEEPER. He's throwig stuffs all over this board without even thinking...LOL that's precious. He even went on saying "we need outside world to improve..." Could you be more specifc on that one please. I still don't know where you coming from at all. (Just think about our Bubu im Jimma..back in those days...) you're talking about survive there...they're the pefect example of how to survive without the help from outside world....

    Lijinirnir
  • I couldn't have explained it better myself. We exist because of what the outside world has brought onto our lives. And this is dated back to Letao's era
  • Fellas i can understand where u're coming from.
Head, u r probaby looking at it at a different view. My meaning behind the whole thing is SURVIVAL. Now i dunno what century Letao was in, but i brought it up as a mean of how one would considered the time when we got exposed to the world and discovered that we're not alone on this vast body of water. Yea, we were here for sometime earlier.
We saw their big ships and their capabilities, and decided that in order for us to be competitive with the outside world, we'd had to b compatible with them for our survival. So we started by ---like u mentioned it to me, " be more hospitable"---And by us being readily receptive, we didnt only get livestocks but we adopted new ideas and practiced them.
U probably know this more than i do. I know just this enough to give u my point of view, and i hope u get it. So we've learned to accept another kind into our own.

    Reaction,
Human Migration, whatever its causes in specific cases, is certainly not in itself a political problem...according to my litmited knowledge of it. ;) We know that prior to settled social life and territorial organization of political order, change of habitat was natural occurrence of human life, whether on a permanent or seasonal basis. In the former case, having reached the life-support limits of its local environment, the human group could move into an adjacent area. As to the case seasonal migration, one can still see this in the life of - iroj ro -within the borders of territorial atolls.
The history of freedom of movement of individuals (and perhaps even small human groups such as families or small sects) as opposed to (large)human groups lasted even longer, well into the - ien ko an ri-Nippons ro - on the average.

Is frayed in an ethnically divided society what ur really concerned about? Cuz we're not a multiethnic nation yet.
What i'm concentrating more on is our very little natural resource industry...it doesn not seem feasible in the near future. We definetly need the outside world to help us sustain or improve our way of living. We have virtually little exports to finance the many imports that we need in order to survive.
And despite the beautiful sandy beaches and our people, tourism is almost nonexistent. Now do u think it's political instability, or lack of infrastructure, or the abject of poverty like on ailing ko ilik. We want the tourist agencies direct their clients to our islands.

Ok now politically speaking, Mass Migration ('mass' in the sense that one uses it in "mass society") is seen by many as symptom of the 2 central decisive problems that our generation has deal with, namely, ecological and demographical problems.
And u and i both know that Sovereignty is exercised at the expense of the most vulnerable categories of human beings, such as IMMIGRANTS, and with huge dividends at the polls ---of course.
The basic issue here is that crucial need to know demographic processes such as fetility.....and development processes such as rural development, and urbanisation.
All this is in the hands of our develpment planners and policy makers. And we know our future is wrapped up in the minds of our youths.
And also we need to remind ourselves(and others) however, that ilo waan meto in wad (marshalls), there's 1 or 2 life-jackets, and that we either survive together or are damned together.

  • >;-D
Ok i promised myself to stay away from these forums ak... i just couldn't help it here.
Some ppl just dont get it, as in the case with Lijinjin...she's either a comedian or she's on page one. If only she would scroll up and dig in with all the posts.

    ReAction..

I have just mentioned demographic processes-->fertility and development processes--> rural development and urbanisation. Ecological and demographical problems.

    Toostie...
either way more and more ppl(outer island) r occupying the Majuro--that's what started this thread--it may not b mass but it sure is the right word for it since there r no spaces 4 u 2 go skinny dippn`.

    Now 4 ur Head....
From my point of view, u r one of the "life jacket" someone with a head as big as urs...LOL
U remind me of this fello classmate of mine from Queen of Peace..he loves drawing images of football players...he goes by the nick 8====> Key.
  • hello all,
In England the big debate for the past few years has been the amount of immigrants coming to the country.People from the balkans ,africa ,indian ,pakistsan and just about every war torn or poor country. There are already 60 million on this small island, people talk about being swamped. It is the way of the world in the 21st century.
  • Thanks Reaction,
You have to realise that now, when people are poor or living in corrupt or war torn countries they will try to find a better life for themselves and their families. We have found here in the uk that nothing can stop them.Your islands will have to change just like the rest of the world as people become more mobile.
