Iroijlaplap Kabua's Deal with Wagdy for Kwajalein in 2016  Bottom

  • well, well, well, it appears that nobody in this forum including those whose post preceeds this post, has any answer to the question posted. Iroijlaplap is doing the right thing looking for the best deal for the people of Kwajalein, much much better than what the current LUA or the proposed LUA is offering. OK, barefoot rest her case on this issue. One victory for Iroijlaplap Imata Kabua and his supporters.
  • Barefoot,

Wouldn't Iroij Kabua declare victory only if he gets what he is looking for.

QuoteUnder this proposal, $3 billion would be placed in trust, and interest payments made to the landowners according to the following breakdown:45 percent to landowners according to acreage they control; 40 percent per capita; five percent each to education, health and to the development bank for low interest loans

    If invested at 4% a year, $3B will generate $120M a year.

About $54M per year would be for the landowners, based on acreage owned.

About $48M would be divided per capita. I suspect, this would be per capita for ONLY the landowners involved. The rest of the Marshallese would get $0.

About $6M a year would go to education programs. Who controls how distributed, the landowners, KALGOV, a new KADA controlled by the landowners, or your national govt? Once I know that, I will tell you who would benefit.

About $6M a year would go to health programs. Who controls how distributed, the landowners, KALGOV, a new KADA controlled by the landowners, or your national govt? Once I know that, I will tell you who would benefit,

About $6M a year would go to MIDB for "low interest loans" Wink Wink

So, if you are a landowner - an Iroij, Leroij, or Alab for Kwajalein Atoll, you will definitely benefit from this deal, if ever reached (which I doubt).

If you are any other Marshallese, you will get $0 in direct payments. Whatever benefit you derive will be from any improved health and education programs and whatever income you can generate by getting charity or selling something to a landowner.

Oh, and the Ebeye Special Needs Fund, that today is keeping your power plant on Ebeye going? Well, under this deal as proposed, that funding would end.

And so would the funds provided for Kwajalein environmental programs, cause they are not requested.

“I hope the signing of the LUA (Land Use Agreement) allows the Government of the Marshall Islands more time to focus on the biggest issues it faces – how to raise the level of education and health of the Marshallese people and how to create an economy that will be stable after direct US funding ends in 2023.”
US Ambassador to the Marshall Islands Martha Campbell, as quoted by MI Journal, 13 May 2011, pg 4
  • As I asked before, but nobody seems to have an answer for, under Iroij Kabua's proposal who would pay to rebuild Ebeye? There is no funding allocated for the reconstruction of Ebeye, which is what this uproar is all about. The landowners would pocket substantially all the money, but there is no commitment on their part to improve living conditions on Ebeye. What is needed is $300 million in Ebeye redevelopment funding, that is just 10% of what Kabua is asking for, where is it?
  • InterestedObserver...

u and ur government and ur country and ur people owe alot to IROIJLABLAB IMATA KABUA AND THE OTHER IROIJs... "that is the bottom line"

The answer is RMI government, RMI government is supposed to spread the wealth and built infrasturctures all over RMI. All Imata is asking for is rent money for renting his land not RMIs land.

"Sometimes you just can't argue with stupid!!!"

  • There is no money for rebuilding Ebeye, within the current lease agreement, within the $3B deal as proposed by Imata, or within the funds available to the RMI Government.

The RMI government is struggling to meet the basics, like repairing field trip ships so it can at least offer SOMETHING to the people of the outer islands.

If the Ebeye "special needs fund" provided by the US comes to an end, the conditions on Ebeye, unless something else changes, will quickly get worse.

  • Boooooooooo.

  • Booo @ RMI...

They tell us what they do for us, yet what have they done to us?
  • No, booo @ the "Iroijlaplap". barefoot said
QuoteWith this "indifinite" dea, isn't the Iroijlaplap searching the best deal for himself and the peopele of Kwajalein?
I say best deal for himself(Imata) alright.

His next target? The people of Rongelap. This guy(Imata) and his buddy(Wadgy) are trying to defraud the people of Rongelap. But I am confident they will lose their case. I hope the GRMI intervenes soon in both cases. Didn't the RMI President say he might do what is essentially an eminent domain on Kwajalein? Maybe some of you here can refresh my memory. I sure do hope he follows through with his threat. I hope they seize the Kwajalein and Rongelap and prevent greediness from taking over. Atleast the GRMI is more accountable to the people whereas Imata is answerable only to himself and maybe Wagdy, who is playing Imata and the people of RMI like a fiddle. Come on RMI Pressident and GRMI, flex some muscle. Are you going to let some foreign businessman, who Imata essentially made a Kwajalein landowner with 50 percent ownership, decide the fate of the people Kwajalein, Rongelap and the rest of RMI?

QuoteAs someone responsible for the welbeing of your people, either President or Iroijlaplap, what would you propose here?

I hope that answers your question barefoot.
  • WoW, thats sound almost like the RMI government having foreigners tell them how to run the government.

Don't forget this could of all been settled a few years ago at the negotiations.

They tell us what they do for us, yet what have they done to us?
  • No, sounds like a rimajol voicing his opposition to people who are greedy. Einwot juon eo ar drik im rittolok ilo majol im ej jen Rongelap, ij ba HELL NO nan armej rane rej ba er traditional leaders ak rejjab kea kon armej ro ak rekea wot kon bank account kan aer. As the song goes, "Moneeey, ejokadran nana..."
  • That songs fits perfectly for RMI.

They tell us what they do for us, yet what have they done to us?
  • if they resisted he would expel them from the islands

    Remember this article?

By the way, how much longer are the islands going to be habitable with the rising seas?

When are the landowners on Ebeye going to build their own sea walls?

My Only Limitation is My Motivation!!!
