Highlights so far:
Chairman said that Marshall Islands bill being considered is the same bill as introduced in 2007 by the RMI President, but he said it was not continued to be considered because of a "change in the Marshall Islands Administration" and a change in the US administration.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski - Congress needs to review all reports to resolve issues.
The Honorable Madeleine Bordallo, Delegate from Guam said at the end of her testimony on another bill, that:
1)US Nuke testing brought helped to bring about for peace in Cold War, but "peace eludes Marshall Islanders" without proper action by this Congress for addressing these issues.
2)It's a "matter of justice" that Congress needs to take action on helping to resolve these issues

It is not Obama but his Office of Management and Budget (OMB). So, it is okay to give billions to thieving banks and poorly run car companies and Guam "downwinders" but don't let those nuclear victims from the RMI get a foot in the door... -

For Tarlang and others, the bloom is off the rose. Sometimes I am wrong, but not this time. I always thought (and posted) that change in administrations would have little to no impact US relations toward and policy with the RMI. Turns out I was right.
Sorry Tarlang.
“I hope the signing of the LUA (Land Use Agreement) allows the Government of the Marshall Islands more time to focus on the biggest issues it faces – how to raise the level of education and health of the Marshallese people and how to create an economy that will be stable after direct US funding ends in 2023.”

So You think this is something to be proud of, Mr.pettittm? So what if your prediction on the turn out is right over Tarlang's? You, this is a very serious blow to us Marshallese, because you and your evil government inflictd on us your poisonus act and now refuses to compensate the evil results. If I were you Mr. pettittm, I would be ashame walking around proud to be an american. You and your government are evil for what you did to the people of the RMI, know that in your heart and soul period. -

At times, I think I should just stop posting.
I am sure Barefoot would agree.
I don't stop because I believe someone on this site must try and be a counterpoint to most of what is posted here.
If I didn't care I would stop.
What is in the RMI's future?
Well, if the only change made by Marshallese is to complain even more loudly and stridently about events that happened over 50 years ago, the future is dismal.
If Marshallese commit to waiting for the US to change policy toward the RMI while doing nothing to change their own course, you will receive nothing but continuing disappointment, sustained unproductive bitterness, and increasingly rapid deterioration of conditions in your nation.
So, if you want to call the US and me evil and say I and my country should be ashamed, fine, continue to say that loud and clear.
But if you stop there and do nothing else, nothing will change.
The decision on what, if anything, should be changed in your nation's policies and practices is your (the Marshallese peoples') decision.
If you believe nothing else, believe this -- the great great majority of Amercans don't give a damn, one way or the other.
So, Barefoot and those who agree with Barefoot, the ball (as it has been since 1986) is in your court.

Posters here complain about billions given to banks, auto industries, war in Iraq/Afghan and little is given to the 4 atolls. Some said "show me the money". Assistance to return the people is not good enough. Food assistance is not good enough. US will alway be the evil one despite all the assistance rendered to the Island. This makes me think that if the US will give a billion or so each to the 4 atolls, and for Kwaj, for that matter, these complaints will stop. I remember years ago when the 4 atolls were given million of $$$, no one complain. These folks flash their money like it'll never run out, spending like the $$$ rains from heaven. When the money ran out, we hear all this "it's not enough here, it's not enough there complains. It's all about the Benjamin. Money talks, BS walks.

"God, our Father, has entrusted precious little ones to our earthly care. To them may we teach prayer, inspire faith, live truth, and honor God. Then we shall have heavenly homes and forever families. For what higher gift could we wish? For what greater blessing could we pray? None!"

Barefoot and Pettitm your letting your words escalate to extremes. You two represent the extreme opposite points of view on this complex issue. One says US is "evil" (a term George Bush liked) and should be "ashamed" and the other says no one in the US "gives a damn" (a phrase Kissinger used).
I predict that ultimately the nuclear issue will find a compromised solution, just like the Kwaj impasse issue will.
