Seven Marshallese Arrested for Hitchhiking on Interstate

(The persons listed below have been arrested by law enforcement officers on the charges noted. They might not been formally charged by a court, nor have they been found guilty of any offense. They should be considered innocent until they are found guilty by a court of law.)
Six were booked for the following charge and bond was set at $500 each:

probably a broken down car situation, hopefully. No doubt no intention of committing suicide, and no intention of attracting attention on local and national tvs. Neither there was intentin of picking a fist fight with any road user, or trying to promote the fact that they were islander boys from the Republic of the Marshall Islands which not too many people know about. Only those people who dropped the bombs, and those who refuse to satisfy the debts still owed to the people of RMI. Certaintly, a mechanical problems for those boys were trying to seek assistance. Unfortunately, they were arrested as if they were intentionally causing trouble on the road. I hope that they will be fairly treated by the police. -

I call it stupidity. What are these idiots doing walking in the state highway, especially on the traffic lanes? Not only were they endangering their own lives, but the lives of the motorists and their passengers as well.
barefoot: What is this stupid act has to do with the US dropping nuclear bombs in the islands? This is another example of Marshallese exposing us in a negative publicity. I can’t wait to see what the judge has to say to these idiots if they tell him/her they were "ignorant of the lawsâ€â€¦

OurSuccess, I can understand your frustration and shame toward this act, but give these boys the benefit of a doubt, you know. What if it was a broken cown car incident? I just don't beleieve these guys wanted to draw attention or cause any problems including suicide. Why didn't they just jump the freeway then? Let us not jump into conclusion just yet. Yes I agree with you that the act nt only endangered the boys live, but also the lives of the road users. I just hope that their intentions are not what we seem to think. Why would they do it now and not in those many days living in Arkansas? Its gotta be something else and not just plain stupidity. -

Yes, I agree and appreciate your logic and scenario; but after the officers’ of the law had originally told them to get off the freeway at the next exit, they disobeyed. I seriously doubt the act was suicidal in nature. I am sure alcohol played a major role. The fact that all seven of the grown men lacked the knowledge and common sense in handling the situation and seek help elsewhere was inexcusable.
For one, hitchhiking is illegal in most state highways; and to step in and try to stop and get the attention of the motorists at the entrance is not only stupid, but dangerous. Luckily nobody picked them up and abducted them for evil reasons.
Perhaps their vehicle, if they actually had one, had mechanical issues and they became stranded, but they should have stayed in the car and let the highway authorities help them resolve the problem. Getting out and start hitchhiking and endangering the lives of other people was not only stupid in the eyes of the law, but irresponsible in every way shape and form.

Having limited facts, I guess I will stop here for now. I just can't believe that not even one of the seven grownups knew that they were in a very dangerous zone. Wow, how stupid we are man. I rest my case. -

I knew it, I knew it. First of all, thank you Pastor Piepho and Mr. McConnell for helping my fellow countrymen returning home safely. The man to go after is the guy who gave these christians the stolen vehicle. I knew all along it could not have been alcohol related incident. The vehicle was impounded or taken away from them as stolen vehicle. Sadly enough, they were incarcerated/kabluuj for 7 days. Indeed they were chritians and while going through the difficult seven days in jail, I'm sure they prayed and sang just like brothers Paul and Sailas did and the Lord God Almighty did the miracle of releasing them from the prison. Sure the mistake these christian brothers made was the walking and trying to catch a ride back home. I see no bad intentions here at all. It just that what they were doing was just not allowed. You can do just that from Rita and Jenrok brothers, but don't you worry too much next time let's not do it again. Often time we Marshallese quicky jump into negative conclusions everytime one or some of us run into problems like this. Instead of feeling sorry and supportive of our nieve fellow citizens, we just say "stupidity". Well Pastor Piepho and Mr. McConnell, thank you finding us Marshallese as nice, kind, and christian people through those seven brothers you met. Yes, we are kind and loving people. Its just that we have long ways to catch up with your American system. You two are so kind. May the Lord bless you and your families more. -

Wow I'm a bit taken back by your praise towards ribelle and their good deeds it never seemed to be in your nature. I guess that’s what I get for making assumptions now I know how it feels. Hopefully some will realize not all ribelle are bad and/or have bad intentions towards rimajolese. -

I am dri-majol and I have every right to feel sympathy for these Christian young men. However, I didn’t need to wait for any more facts to come out because I read the news report that these grown men walked the interstate highways and started hitchhiking. Although no alcohol was involved, the act was suicidal. All seven of them lacked wisdom, knowledge, and common sense.
Walking from Laura to Rita is probably acceptable, but walking any highways in the US mainland is dangerous. Just imagine if these guys were offered a ride by a strange group of men who abducted them at gun point and were sold to the international human sex trade or perhaps they decided to cut out their body parts and sell them on e-Bay for peanuts? Wouldn’t you call that suicidal? Maybe I watch too many horror movies or news, but this is reality. Kij drimajol need to walk up and smell the coffee. We need to be street and book smart at the same time.
I am not being negative. I am being smart and cautious!
I wondered too what happened to their Marshallese pastors or church members during this ordeal?

Guys, let's not forget that this incident happened outside Arkansas where nobody knows about these guys and their country. Thank God Mr. McConnell was in the Marhalls and he knew. Like the 7 brothers, he is a man of God too. I'm sure the Marshallese pastors you are asking for are with the boys after they were transported back to Arkansas. You know what, I wouldn't call that a suicidal because if the intention was to commit suicide, then why not just jump right into the traffic? About just being naieve? Yes I believe that is more appropriate than stupidity and/or suicidal, don't you agree? It is nice to be smart and cautious but always give us a benefit of a doubt before making conclusion. We are improving although it takes time. We'll be there like our Mexican, indian, Eskimo, brothers and sisters. -

Although their action was not planned or staged as suicidal, I still call it "suicidal" for all who shared the interstate highways on that day. That's why they got arrested. Their inconsiderate action caused them to be locked up and fined. If you want to call it naive, that's fine. It's this sort of naivety that causes us embarrassment.
These men were from Arkansas? Are we talking about the same state with the largest Marshallese population? It is no wonder we heard not too long ago about the group of Marshallese women there who were caught on camera and featured on the local news for picking and eating each other’s hair lice. I know this is irrelevant to the subject at hand, but do you want to continue to call this "naive" too? When was the last time you heard about other countrymen trying to walk home by hitchhiking on the interstate highways? -

I don't feel sorry for these crazy guys, they just got lucky because a Pastor just happend to pick up the morning news paper and start reading instead of reading the Bible . Lets not jump into conclusion just yet.
People want to be recognized these days. "The Bible talks about false Prophets". Christians know that what becomes law on earth, becomes laws in heavens as well. These guys break the law, thanks God, they got punished.
The guy who own the car was disappointed with the car dealership because they refused to work a payment plan on the car. So he decided that the only way to get even with the dealership is to loan the car to the seven fools. That's exactly what happen.
