U.S. Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Tests for 2012 are scheduled for the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) this month.

Eligible Marshallese and American citizens between the ages of 17 and 34 will be offered the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test this month on Ebeye, Kwajalein and Majuro between January 18 and January 27.

The ASVAB assesses academic ability and predicts success in a wide variety of occupations. It consists of eight sections: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, and Mechanical Comprehension. It is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world.

Career Exploration Scores are provided to the students at the school to help them engage in career exploration. ASVAB results are reported to students and counselors on a Summary Results sheet that provides percentile-based interpretations of the scores as well as suggestions for their use in career planning.

The school ASVAB tests are only for students currently enrolled at the school hosting the test.

The ASVAB is also the first step for RMI citizens interested in serving in the U.S. military. Applicants not enrolled in one of the hosting schools must pre-register with a military recruiter to take the enlistment test. U.S. Army recruiter Staff Sergeant Tuatagaloa will be on Ebeye and Majuro before and during the tests to register applicants.

He may be contacted in Honolulu by telephone at his office (808) 486-3331 or at his cell phone (877) 801-4095, or at the RRE Hotel 625-3250 from January 21 -27, 2012 or by e-mail: Ipisia.tuatagaloa@usarec.army.mil
