Articles: College of the Marshall Islands Hosts 19th Foundation Day Celebration
The College of the Marshall Islands kicked-off its 19th Foundation Day Celebration on Wednesday morning. Marshallese youth from local schools were given campus tours. Student organizations sponsored booths for promotion and fundraising while sports' demonstration kept visitors entertained.
The formal opening ceremony, at 4 p.m., featured remarks from CMI President Carl Hacker, RMI Minister-in-Assistance Tony deBrum, CMI Board Chairman Romeo Alfred, and Stevenson Kotton, CMI alumni.
In a strong show of support, CMI students and friends, carrying colorful banners, hit Majuro streets with a pep rally, traveling between CMI and Downtown.
“The Opening Day was a success thanks to the hard working efforts of the Foundation Day Committee and the CMI students, staff and faculty who supported the event,” said College officials yesterday on CMI’s Facebook page.
The public is invited to attend the sports' exhibitions and activities continuing through Saturday evening.
On Saturday morning, the Second Annual 5K Run/Walk Event will be held in support the College of the Marshall Islands' Developmental Education Emson Makroro Scholarship Fund. Registration will be held from 7:00 am to 7:45 am the morning of March 31st and the race will begin at 8:00 am.. The race will begin and end at the College of the Marshall Islands' main campus site in Uliga.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female race finishers in the five age groups. (For more information, call the College office or visit CMI’s website, www.cmi.edu.)
An International Night Talent Show Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., will top-off the week's activities.
