A Taiwan Medical Mission specializing in Ophthalmology, sponsored by R.O.C. (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), and organized by Taipei Municipal Wan-Fan Hospital, arrived in Majuro October 18. The team began their volunteer medical services that same day, mainly in performing cataract surgeries.
Consisting of one licensed doctor of Ophthalmology and two nurses, the Mission is providing volunteer clinical and surgical services to patients that have already been identified by the mission’s close counterparts in RMI MOH and the Majuro Hospital.
In addition, Dr. Wu, Chih-hsiung, M.D., Ph.D., Superintendent of Taipei Medical University- Shuang Ho Hospital was also briefly in Majuro October 18-19 to express Shuang Ho Hospital’s keen interest in developing its cooperation with the RMI Ministry of Health in the future. Shuang Ho Hospital, along with Taipei Municipal Wang Fan Hospital and Taipei Medical University Hospital are all under the Taipei Medical University system and among the three hospitals, Shuang Ho is currently the newest and the biggest.
The Mission is scheduled to conclude their volunteer medical services and depart for Taiwan on November 2.
