WUTMI (Women United Together Marshall Islands) released the following job announcement for the iBRAVE project to end violence against women/domestic violence. Deadline for submissions is April 26, 2013.

PROJECT:  Initiative for a Better Response to Address Violence Everywhere (iBRAVE)

START DATE: May 1, 2013

DESCRIPTION: Through iBRAVE, WUTMI will work to accomplish three of the five key national outcomes outlined in the Secretary-General’s UNiTE Campaign 2008-2015.  These include: 1) increased public awareness about the high prevalence of domestic violence and the need to reduce and prevent it; 2) the adoption and implementation of multi-sectoral national action plans; and 3) the adoption and enforcement of national laws to address and punish domestic violence.   iBRAVE includes an awareness and education component for 100 first responders (60  police, 40 health care providers), and the development and implementation of response protocols for their respective fields.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

        Facilitating educational workshops with government and community stakeholders, including the members of the Resources Development Committee, and the Women in Development Office (WDO) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
        Initiating consultations with the relevant stakeholders for the purpose of collaborating to submit draft legislation that will codify a national policy on violence against women;
        Oversee the drafting and submission of prepared legislation;
        Conducting workshops throughout the project to increase the awareness of first responders and the need for them (and their Ministries) to develop and implement response protocols for each sector (medical and legal);
        Conducting training workshops on the implementation of the protocols as they are developed and sanctioned by the Ministries and the Attorney General’s Office.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. or B.S. degree or higher from an accredited college or university.  Preferably will have previous knowledge and/or experience working in this area. References from previous employers and/or teachers will be required.
