Articles: Marshall Islands President Expresses Appreciation in Letter to US President Obama
In a letter to United States President Barack Obama, Republic of the Marshall Islands President Christopher J. Loeak expressed appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to President Obama, on behalf of the people and Government of the RMI, for declaring a State of Disaster for the Marshall Islands due to the ongoing severe drought in the northern atolls and islands.
The declaration made by President Obama on Friday, June 14, 2013, will enable access to much needed federal funding for emergency relief and reconstruction in accordance to Public Law 108-188, as amended, including article X of the Federal programs and Services Agreement to the Compact of Free Association.
The Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands looks forward to working with the United States Agency for International Development’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal emergency Management Agency on the development and timely approval of the Relief and Reconstruction Plan.
